What’s the best way to care for luxury vinyl flooring?

Low maintenance is one of the many appealing capabilities of luxury vinyl plank and tile. It doesn’t need much, but, like anything else, the better you take care of it, the longer it will last.

Speaking of lasting, this can have a lifespan of 25 years or more with proper care. Here are some tips.

Sweep regularly

Do it several times a week, or even every day if possible. It’s essential so dirt won’t embed, pit, or scratch your floors.

Use a soft-bristled broom or dust mop. Get in corners and under counters where dirt can hide.

Damp mopping

Mop your luxury vinyl tile or plank periodically. You set the schedule according to family size, kids, pets, etc.

One of the best cleaners comes right out of your pantry. Use one cup of apple cider or white vinegar to one gallon of water.

The vinegar is acidic enough to break up dirt without causing harm or creating a filmy residue. There are many good commercial cleaners but only use manufacturer-approved ones.

The mop should be well-wrung. Change water frequently, so you don’t just push the dirt around.

Stains are easy to remove

Wipe spills right away so they don’t set and stain your LVT or vinyl plank floors. You can usually remove them if they stain with baking soda/ water paste.

Usually, a little WD 40 will remove scuffs. Tougher stains can sometimes be removed with acetone, but that’s something you should discuss first with a flooring expert.
